The franchise just East of the Bay Bridge
The Oakland Athletics were born in the 20th century in the American League and were moved to Missouri then to Kansas City in the 1950s for financial reasons. The move was unsuccessful, and the team moved to Oakland in 1968 where they welcomed impressive players as Reggie Jackson and Rollie Fingers. After suffering many defeats in the 1970s, the team returned to the limelight thanks to the arrival of manager Tony La Russa. Since then, the Athletics have often withstood not only their opponents but also the whims of Mother Nature, notably during the earthquake that hit during the third match of the World Series in 1989!
