How to care for and clean your hat

You've just bought your bonnet to keep your head warm this winter and you love wearing it every day because it's so beautiful and because it fits you so well (come on, admit it). So here are a few cleaning tips to make sure it stays looking as good as the first day it caught your eye.

HOW TO CLEAN AND CARE FOR YOUR WOOL HAT

The first thing to remember is that you shouldn't machine wash a wool hat, unless the manufacturer says you can on the label, in which case make sure you wash it cold (30°) to avoid any nasty surprises (unless you like very small hats). Instead, hand wash: gently soak your hat in lukewarm, almost cold, water and use a little mild detergent for wool, or a drop of baby shampoo. Rub the wool gently between your hands, taking care not to wring the hat, either during washing or when spinning. If you do, your bonnet will warp or stretch, and you won't be happy with the result, that's for sure.

HOW TO DRY YOUR WOOLLEN HAT?

It's very important never to wring out your beanie by twisting it, as you risk deforming it. Roll your wool hat in a dry towel, then lay it flat on another towel to absorb excess water. Avoid placing it on your clothes line, as you'll damage it (the weight of the water will distort it). If your bonnet is machine-washable, there are still a few precautions to take. We recommend that you put it in a special cover for lingerie or in a pillowcase, for example. Then wash it cold (30°) using a mild detergent (if possible a special wool detergent). Once clean, lay it flat to dry after absorbing excess water with a towel, for example.

HOW TO CLEAN AND CARE FOR YOUR FLEECE-LINED HAT?

To keep even warmer on the coldest days, you've opted for a fleece-lined hat, and because you wear it every day you love it so much, it's ended up getting dirty. Well, it's easy: wash your fleece-lined hat by hand, using lukewarm water. Add a few drops of mild shampoo (baby shampoo is ideal), or special wool detergent. Rub gently and again, be careful not to wring it.
